Romer's Burger Bar

We were on west 4th for some late afternoon shopping and passed by this restaurant called "Romer's Burger Bar" ( http://romersburgerbar.com/ ) We thought we'd give this fancy burger joint a try.

Self claimed to be the best burger in town, Romer's Burger uses all natural, free range meat. I don't eat burgers often, so the juicy Maple Bacon Pork Burger definitely hit the spot.

The menu didn't look pricy at first glance with all burgers from 9 to 12 dollars. However, the burgers are just burgers. The sides are extra, varying from 4 to 7 dollars. Some sides are big enough to share between two people and others are single portioned.

The restaurant has multiple high def TVs and the drink menu is pretty extensive. The decor is new and hip. Overall it is a neat hangout spot.

Web Finds

It was pouring this morning. Of course I know. I forecast it. 45 some mm rain later in downtown Vancouver, it suddently felt like winter. Trying to recover from a whole night of working, I sat on the couch and shopped. It feels like winter, which means boots are coming out. Well, for me, it will be any close toe shoes for walking.  Okay, walkable.

Last year I owned a pair of over the knee high boots, and this year I want something lower.

These are the two pairs I fount. They look a bit rusty, which is why I love them. The top pair looks more cowboy. (http://www.yesstyle.com/)
while the other pair (http://www.anthropologie.com/) has a little European flare.

What do you think?

A Kitchen Party

I love kitchen parties, especially when it is hosted in a beautiful one like John & Terri's - it is one of the best constructed kitchen I have ever been in.  It was a rainy Saturday night with 20 something people from the office.

The kitchen is bright, airy, simple and elegant. Stainless appliances compliments the custome cabinets.

As for food, thanks to Culinary Capers Catering (http://www.culinarycapers.com/menus/menus.html) it was a blast. The food was well packaged, presented and delicious!

The skewers are one of my favourites. Shrimp, mint leaf and mango. Simple but tasty.

steak served on mini pancakes.

I have to sneak John's scotch collection somewhere in here. He also has a wine collection that can make many people very jealous.

You will never guess what these are. They are cheese cakes on sticks! How cool are they?!

These are little crapes with chocolate and caramel inside.

Thanks Uncle Buck and Terri for hosting such a wonderful kitchen party!

Diva At The Met

Seriously. This restaurant is great! Last night, for my friend Dennis' birthday, we went to Diva for dinner. It was my second time at the restaurant, and I love it!

The food was infused with different flavours, textures and temperatures.

This was my appertizer. Maple Glazed Vancouver Island Scallops with thyme roasted apple and celeriac puree and apple gel. The apple gel provided the sweetness. The roasted apple and celeriac puree is creamy but not too buttery. Mixed with slightly crusted and salted scallops, the dish was delish.

My main course was a cinammon smoked duck breast with red kuri squash risotto, sage and apple jus. The duck was superb. It was tender, and the apple jus added just a little bit of necessary sweet to it. I am not the biggest fan of risotto. Being a Chinese, I always like the risotto al dante (I like firmness!). The fried sage on the other hand added that little bit of crunchiness to the whole dish.

Now the desert was cool. The little jelly pouch breaks, and the liquid comes out. Tops that with the icecream, and it was delicious. The Creme Brulee is always my favourite. Creamy and sweet. Love it.

Finally, another chef compliment to finish our meal, we had the famous Thomas Haas Sprinkle Chocolate Cookies. Yum.

This restaurant is not new. It is in the lobby of the Metropolitan Hotel. The food critiques seem to have forgotten its existence. BUT, it does have its newly appointed, young prodigy Executive Chef (prevoiusly from C Restaurant), Quang Dang (http://www.metropolitan.com/diva/quang_dang.htm) Check it out!

Fall Already

I am forecasting for a rainy long weekend and reminiscing some fantastic summer hikes of 2010. This is one of them. Diez Vistas was a 6 hr hike for me. I went up the less steep side (wrong decision), and came down the steep side.

It was a good 3 and a half hours before I reached any view points. The views though, wowed me! I was sick with a low grade fever on the hike, but when I saw this view, I felt all better.

The trail meanders along the ridge with sensational views of Vancouver, Indian Arm, and the North Shore mountains.

Like I said, going down the steep side wasn't easy, especially with a fever. A few kilometers and almost 2.5 hours later I reached the parking lot.

BlogPress

This is my little effort trying to keep my blog updated. I can now write my blog on the go and upload photos through my phone. Fantastic!

Here is my favourite photo of the past week. Rob and I just celebrated our 2nd year anniversary. I guess time flies when you are having fun.

A New Start

I have been ignoring my blog for way too long. I guess it is time to give it a makeover, and start things again.
